Master's Program Overview

The breadth of Penn's Master of Biotechnology Program and its cross-disciplinary approach prepares students with the knowledge and skills they need for leadership in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. According to their interests, background and career goals, students can choose from one of three parallel tracks:

  1. Molecular Biology, which emphasizes molecular biology
  2. Biopharmaceutical/Engineering Biotechnology, which stresses drug discovery and biopharmaceutical manufacturing
  3. Biomedical Technologies, which focuses on clinical issues such as biomaterial, tissue engineering, and imaging

Providing standards and flexibility, each track has both required courses and electives. Core courses common to all tracks insure each student's exposure to all areas of biotechnology. All students learn about topics ranging from the latest developments in recombinant DNA technology to non-technical issues that students must understand to bring biotechnology products to market such as bioethics, government regulatory and drug-approval policies and patent law.

Students enroll in the Fall term and full time students can complete the program's required 11 course units in three terms. Those looking to enroll in the program are invited to view our Admissions webpage. Tuition costs can be found on the Penn Engineering Tuition Page.
